Entry #7
Lions and Leopards and Lynxes, oh my!
When I saw this book at the Re-use Zone it purred. The illustrations were so wonderful and I was curious about some of those unfamiliar cats. That same day I found the Harpers Magazines and the series took shape in my mind before I was even back to my car. It then took me some time to select the fashion cats to match up with the wild cats. I like to cut things out and ponder them for some time before gluing. Then I usually reach a point when I just decide, enough pondering for heaven’s sake, just glue it. Again, it is that issue of preciousness, the question of “but what if I glue it and then find a better match for that one? “ etc. etc. Having a somewhat obsessive compulsive personality coupled with a short attention span is a challenge at times…
After all the fashion cats were glued up I realized some of them needed collars and some needed hats. I used the jewelry ads from the same Harpers magazines to create their millinery finery. For this series I did scan the original book pages and printed them onto matte photo paper. I did this because there were many pages that had illustrations on both sides and I wanted to use all of them. This also provides the option for me to make a second batch down the road if I so desire.
